We don’t celebrate St Patrick’s day here in Sweden, not anything I’ve heard of, but of course I have to wear green nails today to honor all my friends all over the world that do celebrate today! Read the rest of this entry
It’s time for “texture Tuesday” and today I’ve done a purple skittlette with Isadora “Fresh Linen” (from their new spring collection) on my pinkie and thumb, textured “Cotton Candy”, also from Isadora, on my long finger and pointer and Make Up Store “Lina” on my ring finger where I also placed a bow (bought from Light in the Box).
I just love how this mani turned out ❤ It’s cute and girly, and yes, sometimes I like it girly even though I’m over 40 years old(!) I guess the girl in me never disappears *lol*
I love how the different purples complement each other. I like doing skittlettes, it’s a fun way wearing more than one nail polish in the same mani 🙂
I don’t know if you see that I’ve got a slightly different nail shape? I’ve filed them more rounded. Maybe I’m going for a more almond shape in the future?! The main reason for changing my squovals into this is that I had difficulty writing on the keyboard, and as I work as a secretary that’s not a good thing. So, what do you think of the new shape?
Yesterday’s blog post was about my unloved polishes. I think everyone whos into nail polish has them. The polishes we have, don’t use, wont use but still can’t get rid of, they might come handy one day.
This trigged me, I thought,”hey, you must come up with something so you can use them”. So today’s blog post will be about those unloved ones but paired or altered into something better. But a few of them I can’t stand at all so those I just skip! My blog – my rules!
These are all the polishes.
Here we go:
I started with Kicks Nail Lacquer “Miss Preppy”, a blue shade I’ve never worn. I really don’t know, I thought it would look dull or something. I decided to pair it with a unknown (no label) Models Own polish.
I started out with two coats of “Miss Preppy”. Actually, to my surprise, I liked it on it’s own!
Then I added one coat of the unknown Models Own Polish. This turned out really good, I think.
Next polish I wanted to try was Isadora “City Khaki”. A khaki green polish I’ve bought on sale but never worn. I decided to pair it with KBShimmer “Spot Sign”, a glitter topper with leopard spots!
I really don’t know why I bought this polish, when would I ever wear a khaki colored polish? This polish just say nothing to me.
But definitely more fun with leopard spots!
Next up was ESSIE “Eternal Optimist”, a vintage pinkish polish. Maybe some Rainbow Honey will cheer it up?
A nice polish, but I think it’s a “old lady shade”. Not really my cup of tea! I’ve worn it once.
Rainbow Honey “Sakura Matsuri Namesake” is a cute glitter topper that I think compemented the boring ESSIE.
Next up is a polish I so want to like, Isadora “Peachy Colada”. It’s really a pretty shade, but not on me, at least not when I don’t have a tan. Besides it will apply a little streaky. But everything gets better with a little “Fairy Dust” doesn’t it?!?
First up is two coats of “Peachy Colada”. Not a good color on me!!
Then I put some “Fairy Dust” on … an improvement.
Finally I have a Zoya polish named “Bijou”. I bought it in USA on vacation this summer but I was so disappointed when I tried it, it is so sheer … like nothing I’ve ever tried before or after. Who would have known that such a pretty shade would be such a disaster?
I started with one coat … added second and even a third coat …
Three coats and still too sheer. What to do? Make a gradient of course!!
I was a bit sloppy when I made my gradient, because I had done so many swatches in a very short amount of time so I thought I’d add “Fairy Dust” on top. Every gradient becomes lovely with “Fairy Dust” 😀
This was a fun “project” to do. I challenge you to take your unloved polishes and make some nice manis with them. If you’re on Instagram please tag me on your photo of your manis with the hashtag #nillasunlovedchallenge
I was tagged by a sweet friend on Instagram to show polishes that I have in my stash that I never use, dislike but can’t get ride of or give away. They might come handy one day, you never know!?!! 😀
In the photo:
♦ Zoya “Bijou”, such a lovely color but too sheer formula, I’ve never used it.
Delush Polish “Moves like Jagger”, a lovely blue glitter polish, but every time I try to do a mani with it the nails get too thick and I remove it. It seems I can’t get friends with it’s formula. The swatches I seen with it is lovely though … maybe some day…
♦ Kicks Nail Lacquer “Miss Preppy”, too dull blue, I’ve never used it.
♦ ESSIE “Eternal optimist” is just the wrong color for me, I’ve worn it once.
♦ Nails Inc “Chelsea square” is a weird glitter topper(?) I haven’t figured out how to wear it and I just don’t like the polish. I don’t know why I bought it.
♦ Isadora Wonder Nail “Peachy Colada” is a gorgeous peach shade but a bit wrong for my skin tone and I don’t like the formula, it applies streaky for some reason. Creme formulas from Isadora usually is very good so I don’t know what’s wrong with this one.
♦ Isadora Wonder Nail “City Khaki” is a polish I bough on sale and I don’t know why I bought it?!? When would a wear khaki colored nail polish
♦ OPI”Muppets world tour” is really pretty but somehow I never grab that bottle when I will use a glitter polish. I’ve used this polish for my mum’s nails though.
Do you have any unloved ones?
Here’s part 2 of my year summary of 2014.
May started with sunny weather and I wore appropriate apple green polish – Model City Polish “Margarita Time”. Unfortunately I didn’t post more nails on my Instagram feed 😦
In May I also got my first (and only so far) tattoo done, I got a gift certificate for a tattoo on my birthday and now it was time to have it done. I loooooove dragonflies so of course it had to be a dragonfly tattoo!! The dragonfly symbolizes “carpe diem” to me, like YOLO (you only live once) but in a more subtle way and this is the perfect tattoo for me to remind me to live my life the way I want to live it because I only have one life …
In June I posted more pics of polish than in May … but my nails were quite short (I hadn’t yet discovered Simply Pure Oil from Bliss Kiss).
Neon shades is part of summer so of course I had to try at least one neon from OPI’s neon collection. “Juice Bar Hopping” with white undies.
I bought my very first polish from Chanel and felt very luxurious wearing it. Taboo is a gorgeous shade but it would have looked even more luxurious with longer nails.
Of course I wore indie polish as well. This is Crows Toes exclusive polish for Edgy Polish “An Edgy Ocean Dream”.
And I rocked a gorgeous skittlette 🙂
In July it was holiday time and the whole family flew to the States. 10 days of relaxing at the beach, shopping, going on rides at amusement parks and sightseeing.
We started out in Manasquan, NJ and ended the trip with three days in the big apple, NYC.
I came home with a lot of polish … 😀
After my US-trip my nails were back to nubbins. I had gel nails done at a beauty salon and I can’t say that I was very pleased with the result. The day before I got back to work again I struggled for two(!) hours to get rid of them. No, gel nails isn’t my cup of tea.
In August I did my first gradient, not the best result but not the worst either.
I was inspired of @the_matchbook on Instagram to do apple nails. I’m so proud of this manicure. I think it’s so cute!
I bought some new stamping plates from Moyou and played with them. I really like these blue “roses”. It’s always nice with China Glaze “Fairy Dust” on top, don’t you think?! Any mani will look better with “Fairy Dust”! 😀
And it was time to bring out the more darker shades at the end of the month. I love fall colors!
Stay tuned for part 3 of this year summary …
2014 was a very special year. It was the year I really got into nail polish for real. Most pictures in this post is from Instagram taken with my mobile so the quality isn’t that good but it’ll have to do anyway.
In January I bought my first polish from OPI(!) It was “Bubblebath”, a lovely nudish pink/beige.
In January I also took my first stumbling steps into to the world of Indie polish!! I bought my first bottles of indie polish from Edgy Polish. Thank you Katarina for creating such a lovely shop!
In February I bought more polish of course (both mainstream and indie brands) and I also tried some nail art techniques for the very first time.
My first “ombre nails” in different blue/aqua shades.
My first attempt of free hand painting for Valentine’s day.
Cute cat design with dotticure and free hand painting.
In March I continued to explore new techniques. I bought my first stamping plates.
In March I also turned 40 and I decided I will be “40 and fab”! I had a really good party that I will remember for the rest of my life
In April our cat Morris moved in with us. He’s a Devon Rex and he’s such a little sweetheart. He loves to sleep in bed with me under the covers, he loves to sit on our shoulders and loves cuddles.
I love you Morris!
Of course I painted my nails in April also.
I also bought a lot of make up.
Stay tuned for part 2 and 3 of this year summary …
